Congratulations on becoming a Victim Service Provider (VSP)!
Now where do you start? Below, we have put together some resources to get you started on your new employment journey. We want to help you make some important connections as you navigate the victim services arena and begin to serve the crime victims in your area.
APPLY FOR A VICTIM SERVICE PROVIDER (VSP) #:
The Department of Crime Victim Services Training, Provider Certification, and Statistical Analysis (CVST) was created within the Office of the Attorney General, South Carolina Crime Victim Services Division. VSP certification requires new advocates to obtain 15 hours of basic core training during their first year of employment, followed by 12 hours of CVST approved credit each calendar year thereafter. Law Enforcement Based Victim Service Providers should connect with SC LEVA (Law Enforcement Victim Advocate Association).
Get your information added to SCVAN’s online directory
Connect with the Department of Crime Victim Compensation under the Office of the Attorney General, to gather useful information about compensation that may be eligible to SC crime victims.

Identify and connect with other VSP’s in your area (Surrounding Police Departments, Sheriff's Offices, Solicitor's Offices, DSS offices, Non-profits, etc.)
Do you have information for victims in your office? You may want to consider gathering information that may be helpful to your victims such as a copy of the SC Victim Bill of Rights, resource brochures, SCVAN’s Survival Guide, crime victim compensation information, etc.

Attend the Annual Victims’ Rights Week Conference! You can also obtain your 15 hours of basic core credit at the conference.
